WGL Training & Assessment Equipment List

For your comfort and safety it is important candidates bring to the course all equipment items listed below.
Where you see an * equipment is provided by climbmts however, if you have all the equipment listed with an * then please bring with you. We encourage candidates to use their own kit.

Technical kit

3 season hillwalking boots and gaiters
Trekking poles
40 to 50 litre rucksack compression strap style with waterproof liner, recommend lightweight dry bags
Hydration, either flask or water bottle / bladder
OS Maps 1 50:000 sheet 51 & 42
Compass (recommend Silva type 4)
Ortlieb map cover
Group shelter
Survival bag
Personal first aid kit
Head torch recommend Petzl XP 50 type
Waterproof note pad, recommend (rite in the rain, all weather note book) www.RiteintheRain.com
Waterproof trousers and jacket
Spare mid layer
Gloves at least two pairs, one spare
Warm hat at least two
Sun cap, sun glasses, sun cream
Up to date SML candidate logbook

Camping kit
Tent * (if buying recommend 1 person or 2 person hillieberg or lightwave 3 season range)
Stove and fuel, (recommend lightweight gas stove like the MSR pocket rocket)
Pan, mug, penknife and spoon
Lightweight sleeping bag recommend 2-3 season down fill bag
Sleeping mat, (recommend three quarter length super light thermarest)

With practise all items will fit into a 50 litre alpinist style compression strap rucksack.

You may have items you want to bring with you which are not listed above, if in doubt please bring with you.

Your course is completely self catering, please ensure you have enough food to cater your needs for the entire 3 day course including the overnight camp.

Please remember to bring a dish towel, bath towel and wash kit and personal clothing for wearing indoors,
especially soft shoes for travelling.
