Introduction to Winter Mountaineering

Progressing fromwinter walking to mountaineering. Learn the basic but all essential rope skills to help you progress safely to tackling difficult and tricky terrain. This course has a definite hands on approach and packs a lot in.

The following key areas will be coached:
• Winter mountaineering equipment: What to take and why
• Snow pack belays: How to construct themfor what and when
• Control: How to stay in control when ascending and descending steep terrain
• Belaying: How to belay safely, quickly and efficiently
• Avalanche: Safety and knowledge
• Refresh your skills: A chance to brush up on crampons and ice axe techniques

Knowing what to do comes with practice and in return builds your confidence on the hill, giving you a reliable blueprint to always draw from. This course is led by the top professional mountaineering instructors in the UK, sharing their wealth of knowledge , top tips and handy hints.
