Aberfeldy Courses: Our course begins with a Friday evening start in our multi-media training room located at our office.

Course introduction, lecture: Avalanche Avoidance includes; Types of avalanches and how they occur, safe travel techniques,interpreting mountain weather and avalanche forecasts. We finish off with course educational materials and equipment check.

Depart to Ben Lawers range of mountains for practical session

How to use avalanche transceivers, how to ware one, switching on, testing and searching techniques.

Planning a route, determining avalanche threats.

Group journey.
Safe travel techniques, observing potential terrain, weather and snowpack hazards.

Packed lunch

Continue journey, route selecting, assessing terrain, weather and snowpack at different altitudes and slope aspects

Basic search and rescue techniques and exercise using transceivers, probes and shovels.

Avalanche first aid, digging people out.
