Want to step up from winter walking? This course is ideal for those who aspire to winter ridges and up to grade one terrain. You’ll learn to journey safely on exposed snow slopes using one ice axe and on occasions a rope to protect awkward / exposed down climbs and ascents over corniced edges and narrow ridges.
It’s always wise to practise winter skills, on this course we refresh those rusty skills and instruct new ones along the way. The essential use of ice axe, crampons avalanche avoidance and winter navigation is taught as an ongoing theme throughout this holiday.

In addition we will coach the correct use of rope techniques including snowpack anchors, belays, and techniques associated when protecting mountaineers on exposed ridges and slopes.
With our mountaineering instructors by your side you’ll get plenty of opportunities to practise skills and journey to summits on classic mountaineering terrain they not only possess a wealth of knowledge of the local area but have the experience and qualifications to it back up. They will carefully guide, teach, coach and ultimately encourage you to become a more confident and self reliant mountaineer.

North Perthshire hosts an abundance of first class mountaineering terrain. This terrain with its impressive 360° views of Scotland is ideal for those stepping up to and into winter mountaineering for the first time.
