Scrambling: Getting Started

So, you want to graduate from hillwalking to scrambling?
Scrambling is arguably the most exciting exploit you can have in the mountains but it can be the most dangerous if not approached with a steady pace, the right skills and knowledge.

Our course will help you understand and acquire the skills and techniques required to tackle the challenges of some
of Scotland’s classic scrambling terrain.

The evening workshop will introduce you to the ropework
associated with scrambling on classic ridges such as Glen Coe’s Aonach Eagach and Pinnacle Ridge on Skye.

We offer advice and guidance on equipment and ensure that
you have the right gear for the mountain day. The Saturday on
the hill will begin by reviewing the ropework skills learned in the workshop, followed by coaching of safe movement skills for steeper terrain. Top tips on scrambling equipment, route selection, grades, anchors and belays, stance management, abseiling, planning and preparation are all covered in this extremely popular course.

What constitutes a scramble?
It starts anywhere you have to use your hands on the ground to improve your balance and stability. It’s not just about grades; you need to approach routes with the right preparation and the right gear.
