Navigation in the mountains
is a serious business and in winter it’s more
critical than ever.
Our evening workshop begins by introducing a session on why winter navigation
techniques and tactics are different from those associated with summer conditions.
Using multi-media, we introduce navigation techniques associated with winter
conditions and evolve the training to teach you how to get out of a few pickles
that require some genuine head scratching.
This training is hands on with map and compass, building
a base of skills we use to coach practically on the mountain
the next day. We will also check your
equipment to make sure it’s suitable for the winter mountain environment
and offer lots of advice and top tips about what to take with you, especially
if it is your first outing in winter.
So, if you’re not hiring, please remember to bring your boots,
crampons, ice axe and compass to the Friday evening workshop.
The causes of fear – meeting the winter weather eye to eye...
Knowing the right course of action will allow you to calmly navigate your way
to safety in white-out conditions.
On the mountain, micro navigation techniques are extensively covered regardless
of weather conditions so prepare for poor weather.
